11/18 Tell Donald Trump to reject hate

Donald Trump inflamed racial tensions in the months leading up to the election and in the years before with his questioning of the legitimacy of our first black president.

Today will be a super easy ask.  Just fill out a few online petitions asking Donald Trump to denounce hate.

Call To Action

Fill out the following online petitions to ask Donald Trump to denounce hate.

11/17 – Stop Steve Bannon

Steve Bannon is an unapologetic white nationalist whose Breitbart News serves as the mouthpiece for the alt-right movement.  His appointment by Donald Trump to Chief Strategist, a position of equal rank to the Chief of Staff, has been widely lauded by hate groups, including the American Nazi Party, National Policy Institute, and the KKK.

Here is Steve Bannon in his own words and some frightening comments in Stormfront, a world-wide white nationalist community.  In short, this is not a person that will help bring America together, but further divide us.  We need to do everything we can to ensure he never sets foot in the White House.

UPDATE

It looks like some of this action may be having an impact.  So far, at least 150 representatives have challenged Trump on this appointment.

Unfortunately, all of them are Democrats.  Please use the resources below and start calling Republicans out on this.

Call to Action

Today, we will call Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House, to denounce this appointment.

His number

  • (608) 752-4050 (try this first, you’re more likely to get through at local offices)
  •  (202) 225-3031 x6

You will most likely talk to a staff member.  That is ok.  The idea is to create enough of a hassle for the folks in their office that the representative hears about it.

And here is a sample script to follow:

Hello, my name is _____. I am a constituent, living in (address, district). I am horrified at the news of Trump appointing Steve Bannon, a white supremacist, as one of his closest advisors.

How does Paul Ryan feel about this appointment? Does this appointment represent his/her views? I am frightened by this (as a woman, as a Jewish person, as a Muslim person, as a black person, human being, etc.) and I am asking Paul Ryan to speak out against this appointment immediately, to make it clear that this is not OK with mainstream Republicans.

I believe that Bannon’s appointment sends a dangerous signal that white supremacists “will be represented at the highest levels” in Trump’s administration. Can Paul Ryan commit to speaking out publicly against this appointment?

If he’s no longer taking voicemails, you can email him at http://www.speaker.gov/contact

Extra Credit

If you’re unable to talk with someone on the matter, please feel free to call your local representative.

Here is how to find your representative or your senator’s number.

If you’re calling a Democrat, this is a parallel script you can use:

Hello, my name is _____. I am a constituent, living in (address, district). I am horrified at the news of Trump appointing Steve Bannon, a white supremacist, as one of his closest advisors.

Does (legislator’s name) agree with Harry Reid that Bannon’s appointment sends a dangerous signal that white supremacists “will be represented at the highest levels” in Trump’s administration?

I am frightened by this (as a woman, as a Jewish person, as a Muslim person, as a black person, human being, etc.) and I am asking (legislator’s name) to speak out against this appointment immediately, to make it clear that this is not acceptable. Can (legislator’s name) commit to standing with Harry Reid and speaking out publicly?
